Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1393227 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Robert Stevens. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Contest,Festival. Score and part. 20 pages. SAXpress.com #976708. Published by SAXpress.com (A0.1393227). Ãlégie, Op. 24 by Gabriel Fauré, arranged for Baritone Saxophone and Piano. Composed in 1889, It is one of a number of significant works for cello composed by French composer Gabriel Fauré. Ãlégie, Op.24 was conceived as the slow movement of a cello sonata. The sonata was never completed. Ãlégie was first performed in 1883 and later published as a stand-alone piece. The work features a somber opening then an intense central section before returning to the elegiac opening theme in C minor.Elegie is dedicated to the cellist Jules Loeb, who gave the first performances accompanied by the composer in December 1883. It was later orchestrated and performed at the Societe Nationale in April 1901, with Pablo Casals as the soloist and the composer as conductor.Fauré later orchestrated this work for cello and orchestra. Many other arrangements exist as solo with piano. This version is for solo baritone saxophone with piano. Difficulty level: advanced. The bari sax part extends well into the altissimo range. Alternate notes are provided in the part for performers who do not wish to play altissimo.

Mendelssohn: Wedding March for Baritone Sax & Piano

Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549893 Composed by Fe…
(+)
Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549893 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 23 pages. Jmsgu3 #3603411. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549893). Score: 12 pages, piano part: 6 pages, baritone sax part: 4 pages. duration: ca. 5'. Mendelssohn: Wedding March Mendelssohnâs Wedding March is so popular that itâs difficult to imagine a wedding without it. It seems like itâs been around for eternity. In any case, it was only 150 years or so ago that the Wedding March came about. It was performed in Potsdam for the first time in 1842, as a piece of Mendelssohnâs music for the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Nightâs Dream. It was first used for a wedding in 1858 Mendelssohn Background Felix Mendelssohn (1809 â1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words. Artistic Standing Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era. Early Family Life Mendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was all of a sudden baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent. Early Adulthood Mendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his major works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint. Mature Adulthood Schumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure. Musical Features In the first place, his musical style was fixed in his methodical mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz, and Liszt. Mendelssohn revered Liszt's virtuosity at the keyboard but found his music rather insubstantial.Register for free lifetime revisions and updates at www.jamesguthrie.com &n.

Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549490 Composed by Felix Mendelssohn (1809 â1847. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 20 pages. Jmsgu3 #3500665. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549490). BARITONE SAX & PIANO - Score: 11 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 5 pages. Duration: 4:20. This is a popular recital piece that would work well also in church or school programs. Mendelssohn Background Felix Mendelssohn (1809 â1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician, and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. At the age of seven, he was suddenly baptized as a Reformed Christian. There, he premiered, namely, many of his significant works. Musical Features In the first place, his musical style was fixed in his systematic mastery of the style of preceding masters. Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1045604 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Ander. Baroque,Easter,Traditional,Wedding. Score and part. 4 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #650183. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1045604). This easy arrangement for baritone sax and piano was written to be uncomplicated to perform and understand the structure of the piece. It can be freely played by beginning students, because of the ease imposed on the piece; however, this does not prevent it from being played by professionals and music teachers. It is also ideal for academic recitals, student method and ceremonies that are arranged in the same way as the piece contains. The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument.

Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549468 Composed by Alexander Scriabin. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3499757. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549468). Score: 8 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 2 pages. Duration: 3:10. An introspective and meditative work with a lot of dynamic and phrasing nuance. Works well for church meditations or recital encores. Background Op.11/2 Alto Clarinet version. First of all, Scriabin composed mostly for the solo piano and also the orchestra. This is probably because he was a gifted pianist and therefore certainly appreciated the piano. Scriabin grew up in the late Romantic period, consequently, he was fond of the great piano masters of the time. As a result, he wrote his first noteworthy compositions in the manner of Chopin and Liszt. Forms Likewise, Scriabin used many of the same forms as Chopin. These certainly include the étude, prelude, nocturne, and even the mazurka. In contrast, as he developed his own sense of style his music became more and more unusual. So, the last five of his Piano Sonatas do not have a key signature and therefore lean towards atonality. Philosophy Scriabin also developed a keen interest in philosophy and likewise poetry. He was above all particularly fascinated by Nietzsche, Delville, and Blavatsky. Consequently, he finally established his own ideas about metaphysics and certainly mysticism. Scriabin consequently advanced theories about the relationship between color and musical keys. Synesthesia He also may have experienced a condition called synesthesia where he could probably sense a response created from a different stimulus. Therefore, it was almost as if he could see music and hear colors. Scriabin, therefore, arranged the colors in a circle similar to the circle-of-fifths and assigned each key area a color. Finally, he assigned the key of C to the color red, while the key of G was orange. Similarly, he assigned D to yellow, A to green, and so forth. Strangely, he did not differentiate between major and minor key colors. Multimedia Hence, his ability to translate colors into music certainly gave Scriabin a most noteworthy interest in creating multimedia events. Furthermore, He designed his biggest work, the Mysterium, to last an entire week. Even more, Scriabin made plans not only for music, but also colored lights, incense, and dancing. He designed the performance to occur in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains. The Mysterium was never performed, and only sketches of the work remain. Modern Performances In modern times, we often experience performances of Scriabinâs most famous completed works accompanied by colored laser lights and incense. These are the Poem of Ecstasy (completed in 1908) and the Poem of Fire (completed in 1910). The lighting effects for these early performances were accomplished by the clavier à lumiéres. It was a keyboard instrument that projected colored light onto a screen.

Itâs Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end of The Avengers, Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets his dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of Itâs Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find Itâs Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both solo instrument and piano enjoying plenty of melodic interest. The separate solo part is included with the piano score in the same pdf file. The overall performance time is just over two and a half minutes. Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549445 Composed by Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 15 pages. Jmsgu3 #3497127. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549445). Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Duration: 4:25. Not difficult, but requires sensitivity & dynamic control. Suitable for recitals, church meditations, or school programs. School Years First of all, Sullivan attended music school at the Royal Academy of Music. Because Sullivan was so talented, the Academy awarded him the Mendelssohn Scholarship for two years in a row. He, therefore, studied with John Goss, who studied with Thomas Atwood, who in turn studied with Mozart. Sullivan similarly studied the piano at the Academy with Arthur OâLeary. Study Abroad During his first year, he also earned money by singing solos in the Chapel Royal. At the end of his second year, the Academy consequently continued his scholarship and sent him to study at the Leipzig Conservatoire. He certainly studied composition, and likewise counterpoint and piano. Hence, during his final year in Leipzig, Sullivan finally completed his graduation composition project: Incidental Music for Shakespeareâs The Tempest. Association with Gilbert It seems like Sullivan built the bulk of his composing career largely in the 1860s. As a result, he became famous for his incidental music for the Tempest and his Irish Symphony. He, therefore, began collaborating with the poet W. S. Gilbert in the 1870s. Rather than focus on serious opera, Gilbert and Sullivan, in contrast, concentrated on comic operas such as H. M. S. Pinafore, the Pirates of Penzance, and the Mikado. Therefore, certainly as a result of his education and experience, Sullivan composed a total of 24 operas, 11 symphonic works, and 10 choral pieces. Even more, he wrote a large number of noteworthy hymns such as Onward Christian Soldiers. Lost Chord The general style of his music is maybe similar to Mendelssohn, Schumann, and perhaps Liszt. It seems like Sullivan was fond of writing distinct melodies for each character in his operettas. His melodies combine together as the characters did. Furthermore, he was a master orchestrator, and therefore played the flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone fluently. The Lost Chord Sullivan wrote his most noteworthy song the Lost Chord in 1877. As a result, it was a great success and was certainly performed all over the world by a variety of singers such as Enrico Caruso. Because Sullivan was the most famous composer in England, the Lost Chord became the most famous of all British or American songs of the 1870s and 1890s. Consequently, in 1888 Thomas Edison recorded The Lost Chord for the phonograph. It was one of the first songs ever recorded. Furthermore, Queen Victoria knighted Sullivan in 1883. Â

Pachelbel: Canon for Baritone Sax & Piano

Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548465 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Wedding. Score and part. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #3386283. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548465). The famous Pachelbel Canon arranged for baritone sax & piano. Great for weddings & receptions. Pachelbel's Canon Pachelbel's Canon is, in fact, the traditional title for a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. Other names for the work include namely: Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo, Canon and Gigue in D, and of course Canon in D. We do not know when or why in particular it was written. The oldest copy is surprisingly from the 19th century. It is important to realize that it was a common routine for organists to practice improvisation on the chord progression underlying the canon. Pachelbel originally scored the Canon notably for three violins and continuo. He also in fact paired the Canon with a gigue. The movements are homotonal, to clarify, both are in the key of D major. History In due time, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style and remained in virtual oblivion for centuries. The Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra, however, recorded an arrangement of it in 1968. As a result, it gained approval.  Many ensembles began likewise to record the piece in the 1970s and by the 1980s became ubiquitous as background music. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, pop songs correspondingly used elements of the piece. The chord progression, in particular, was used this way. Also, since the 1980s, it has been not only wildly popular for weddings, but also for funeral ceremonies in the USA and Europe. Pachelbel Background Johann Pachelbel (1653 â1706) was a German composer, as well as an organist. He was furthermore instrumental in bringing the south German organ school to its apex. He wrote a large body of music, both sacred and, equally important, secular. In particular, he uniquely helped develop the chorale prelude and fugue. For this, he has, in fact, earned a rightful place in the company of the most significant composers of the mid-Baroque period. Works Pachelbel's music was certainly popular. With this in mind, he also consequently had many pupils. His music expressly developed into a model for south German composers. Nowadays, Pachelbel is most famous, particularly for the Canon in D, as well as the F minor Chaconne, the Toccata in E minor, and of course the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of variations for the keyboard. Influences Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll were south German composers who significantly influenced Pachelbel. Furthermore, he was especially influenced by Italians such as Frescobaldi and Poglietti. He frequently preferred an articulate, simple contrapuntal style that highlighted clarity. His music is markedly less extravagant and harmonically adventurous than that of Dieterich Buxtehude. However, as a point often overlooked, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different instrumental combinations in his chamber music. Legacy All in all, Pachelbel was most famous as a composer for the keyboard. He composed over two hundred pieces specifically for the instrument. Pachelbel was also surprisingly a prolific composer of vocal music. All in all, about a hundred vocal works survive, including 40 or so large-scale works.Â

Duration: 4:25 Not difficult, but requires sensitivity & dynamic control. Suitable for recitals, church meditations, or school programs. DvoÅák Background AntonÃn DvoÅák (1841 â1904) was, of course, a composer from Czechoslovakia. As a matter of fact, he was among the first Bohemian composers to attain universal recognition. It is important to realize that the late Romantic Nationalist period featured composers who used traditional and folk elements to portray the character of their nation. In particular, we see this in the music of Grieg (Norway), Finland (Sibelius), and Smetana (Bohemia).  DvoÅák relied markedly on rhythms and other characteristics of Moravian and Bohemian folk music. Ascent to Fame DvoÅák was truly a child musical prodigy on the violin. The premiere performances of his compositions notably occurred in 1872 and 1873. He submitted his First Symphony in particular to a German competition, but it failed to win. Consequently, in 1874 he presented two more symphonies to the Austrian State Prize for Composition. Johannes Brahms was the principal of the jury and was accordingly very impressed. They forthwith awarded the prize to DvoÅák in 1874, 1876, and 1877. At this point, Brahms thereupon endorsed DvoÅák to the publisher Simrock. Later, the publisher commissioned DvoÅák to compose the Slavonic Dances, Op. 46. These became popular overnight and, as a result, DvoÅák's worldwide status was launched. International Status DvoÅák visited England upon invitation nine times. On each visit, he frequently conducted performances of his own compositions. He conducted concerts of his music, especially in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Eventually, the Prague Conservatory in fact appointed DvoÅák as a professor. There, to be sure, he wrote his famous Dumky Trio. United States Consequently, the National Conservatory of Music of America appointed him as director in 1892. As a result, DvoÅák composed his two most famous symphonic works: the Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), which spread his name universally, and his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, one of the most famous of all cello works. Moreover, he wrote his most celebrated American String Quartet during this time. At the same time, because of his growing recognition in Europe and his homesickness for his own country, he left to return to Bohemia in 1895. Â

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548670). Duration: 4:56 Score 5 pg. 44 ms. Solo part: 2 pg. Piano part: 3 pg. Cantique de Noël The French composer Adolphe Adam was already famous as a composer of many successful ballets and operas. Then, in the 1840âs he wrote his most famous work - O Holy Night. The original song title was Minuit Chretiens or Cantique de Noël. Placide Cappeau provided the original song lyrics. The song was first performed in Roquemaure by the opera singer Emily Laurey at midnight mass in 1847. It became very popular among the French, much the way that Silent Night was famous elsewhere. In the 1850âs John S. Dwight, a Unitarian minister and music teacher translated the song into English. Adolphe Adam In his younger years, Adam studied organ and composition at the Paris Conservatoire. He also played the timpani in the Conservatoire orchestra. Adam used his savings and borrowed money to open a new opera house - the fourth opera house in Paris in 1847. Unfortunately, the Revolution of 1848 forced him to close. He taught composition at the Paris Conservatoire from 1849 until his death in 1856. Placide Cappeau The poet Cappeau was an advocate of the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire. Voltaire was renowned for criticizing the Catholic church, religious intolerance, and dogma in general. Consequently, Cappeau made the Redeemer figure in his song a kind of reformer of injustices, in particular, the problem of original sin. To begin with, people recognized Cappeauâs theology as eccentric, probably even doubtful. Theology In the earlier form of Minuit, the Christ figure descends to intervene with His Fatherâs plan to punish mankind. Traditional doctrine pronounces that Christ came from love, not to intervene. This version also declares that Christ appeared to expunge the original sin of Adam. Cappeau removed this part from his poem years later, because he just didnât believe it. He preferred to portray Christ as the reformer of disparity and unfairness. Before long, the writer/politician Alphonse de Lamartine referred to the Minuit as the the Marseillaise of religion. Most French churchmen agreed with this idea but certainly did not consider it a tribute. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

This adaptation was intended for a small group of baritone saxophone and piano, where the original essence of the piece was kept, however, with a reduction in the duration, where only the main themes of the opening were extracted. As it is simplified, it is intended for beginner students of instrumental music who want to enter orchestral music, even in a simplified and reduced form, and can be used by music teachers with their students in ensemble practice in situations such as academic recitals, didactic concerts, or assessment tests. The Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67, known as the Symphony of Destiny, by Ludwig van Beethoven, written between 1804 and 1808, is one of the most popular and best known compositions in the entire repertoire of European music. The four movements are characterized by orchestral homogeneity, being, at the same time, an example of alternation: the first movement, revealing great tension, denounced by the strings and raised to an extreme drama; the second movement reveals solemnity, in a funeral march that rises by its emotion and beauty; the third movement, a crispness; the fourth movement expresses triumph and magnificence.

Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1304476 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Raymond Fenech. Baroque,Christmas,Contest,Easter,Festival,Multicultural,World. Score and part. 9 pages. Raymond Fenech #893967. Published by Raymond Fenech (A0.1304476). The second of Bachâs four orchestral suites is actually the one he composed last, in Leipzig around 1739, and is probably the last orchestral music of any kind that he wrote. It is basically a solo flute concerto in the form of a dance suite, and an extraordinarily difficult flute concerto at that. A badinerie is a sort of character piece in 18th-century suites, with no particular dance rhythm or meter. This one has a full measure of the light and lively bantering the title implies, which has made it also popular with jazz arrangers. The Duration is approx. 1.32 minutes and the level is Advanced Intermediate.
